Liverpool have officially announced that midfielder Thiago Alcantara and defender Joel Matip will be departing the club at the conclusion of the season.

Thiago, the former Spanish international aged 33, joined Liverpool from Bayern Munich in 2020 and has made 98 appearances for the club during his tenure at Anfield. Meanwhile, Matip, 32, has amassed 201 appearances and scored 11 goals since his transfer from Schalke in 2016.

Both players have faced challenges with injuries this season, resulting in limited playing time. Matip has been sidelined since injuring his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) against Fulham in December, while Thiago returned from a hip issue in February only to encounter a subsequent muscle problem.

Manager Jurgen Klopp praised Matip’s character and contribution to the team, emphasizing the player’s widespread popularity among fans. Klopp himself is set to depart after Liverpool’s final match of the season against Wolves.
