The Polish Government has firmly opposed the European Union’s recent asylum laws, designed to enhance migrant distribution among the bloc’s 27 member states.

Following a cabinet meeting, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that Warsaw would resist any attempts by Brussels to impose quotas on his country.

“We anticipate benefiting from the new migration pact,” Tusk affirmed. “We refuse to bear any costs or mandatory migrant placements from elsewhere. The EU will not dictate quotas to us.”

This declaration coincides with the approval of the EU’s Asylum and Migration Pact by member states, hailed as a landmark development by Belgian State Secretary for Asylum and Migration, Nicole de Moor. Despite opposition from Poland and Hungary, the pact garnered sufficient support to pass under qualified majority rules, with the Czech Republic and Slovakia abstaining.

Advocates assert that the pact seeks to streamline security and asylum procedures at EU borders while bolstering returns to curb immigration from regions like the Middle East and Africa. De Moor stressed the importance of collaborative efforts with third countries to address the underlying causes of irregular migration.
