In anticipation of the annual cinema celebration hosted by the Uganda Film Festival (UFF) on June 7, the Uganda Communication Commission has announced this year’s nominees. Among the impressive lineup of submissions, which totaled 307 films, approximately 50 have earned nominations across 25 categories. Notably, a significant number of films in indigenous languages have been recognized, departing from the past trend of prioritizing English-language productions.

Three standout films, characterized by their excellence in technical and acting realms, have emerged as frontrunners. These include a gripping tale of human and organ trafficking, “Christmas Together,” an intense narrative exploring the consequences of concealing the truth, “Omukululo,” and a compelling story of societal challenges, “Makula.”

Leading the pack with 12 nominations is “Makula,” followed closely by “Omukululo” with ten. Noteworthy contenders in the mix also include “Soccer Heart” and “Lions of Buganda.”
