The Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife, and Antiquities, in collaboration with the Department of the Museums and Monuments, is set to mark the International Museum Day 2024 (IMD2024) along with the global community.

This year’s commemoration, themed “Museums shaping knowledge for the future,” draws inspiration from the International Council of Museums (ICOM) theme, “Museums for Education and Research.”

The focus of this theme is to highlight the pivotal role of museums as dynamic educational hubs that foster learning, exploration, and cultural appreciation.

Specifically, attention will be directed towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4: Quality Education and Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.

Under the banner of “Museums shaping knowledge for the future,” the emphasis is on how museums contribute to the evolution of society from traditional to modern, promoting critical thinking and innovation.

This theme serves as a call to action to raise awareness about the transformative potential of museums in steering the future course of our nation.

International Museum Day, observed every 18th of May since 1977, is a global platform for museums to showcase their significance by organizing engaging and free activities aligned with the annual theme.
