With just three days remaining until the National Housing and Population census of 2024, the Ugandan government has urged citizens to observe Friday, May 10th, 2024, as a day to remain at home.

Speaking to reporters at Naguru Police headquarters on Monday, Dr. Albert Byamugisha, chairman of the board of directors of the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), emphasized that this day had been designated a public holiday by the cabinet to facilitate a smooth census process.

“The night of May 9th, 2024, marks the census night, during which all questions posed will reference that specific evening. May 10th, 2024, is declared a census public holiday, and citizens are encouraged to stay at home to ensure the enumeration process commences seamlessly,” remarked Byamugisha.

He further outlined that the census would span ten days, with enumerators visiting every household across the nation. “The inquiries aim to ascertain our population demographics, including gender, age, economic status, and social structure. Additionally, respondents will be asked about their location and living conditions,” Byamugisha elaborated.

It’s noteworthy that anyone within Uganda’s borders on the census night will be included in the national population count.
