Thugs Steal 30 Million Shillings from Chinese Nationals in Kampala

In Kampala, the Territorial Police are investigating an aggravated robbery against two Chinese nationals and a Ugandan worker. The incident occurred at Royal Plaza on Lumum Street, where yet-to-be-identified thugs stole cash amounting to 30 million shillings.

ASP Luke Owoyesigire, the Deputy Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan, confirmed the robbery. He stated that five assailants armed with machetes targeted Zhang Danbing and Gu Xuchu, owners of Kyoga Textile Company Limited, along with their employee, Ouma Duncan.

According to Owoyesigire, the robbers tied up the victims before making off with 30 million shillings, 1,000 USD, passports, four phones, a laptop, and a DVR decoder. The presence of a substantial amount of cash likely made the victims a prime target for the robbery.

Following the incident, Owoyesigire emphasized the importance of security measures for businesses, urging them to deposit cash in banks and prioritize security, particularly for after-hours operations.

In the ongoing investigation, law enforcement officials have secured ropes, a panga (machete), a bag containing burglary tools, and empty sacks as evidence. Additionally, DNA samples will be collected to aid in identifying the perpetrators.

The robbery highlights the ongoing challenges of crime and security in urban areas like Kampala, where incidents of theft and violence occasionally target businesses and individuals with valuable assets.

Local authorities are working diligently to apprehend the suspects and bring them to justice, while also advising the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police.

The targeted nature of the robbery underscores the need for improved security measures not only for businesses but also for individuals who may be at risk of similar incidents.
