Anita Among, the Speaker of Parliament, has demanded answers from the Ministry of Education. This follows an incident where over 40 teachers in Nakaseke District were forced to take exams. Ignatius Koomu Kiwanuka, the district chairperson, is at the center of this controversy.

Nakaseke Teachers Undergo Testing

Reports emerged that on a recent Wednesday, Kiwanuka made Primary Seven teachers from across Nakaseke sit the 2023 PLE at Nakaseke Technical Institute. This decision came after the students they taught posted poor results in the PLE.

Parliamentary Inquiry

Allan Mayanja, Nakaseke Central MP, voiced the teachers’ grievances in Parliament. He highlighted their feelings of disrespect and demanded a legal and procedural explanation for the exams. “Teachers are reaching out, distressed by this demeaning assessment. We need clarity on its implications,” he said.

Government’s Response

John Muyingo, Minister of State for Higher Education, expressed his surprise at the actions, learned through the media. He confirmed that an investigative team is examining the situation. “We were surprised to hear about this. We’re actively investigating, as Nakaseke isn’t an authorized examination body,” Muyingo assured Parliament.

Moving Forward

Muyingo promised a thorough report to Parliament after the investigation. This will shed light on the incident and outline future steps.
